Enjoy the wild side of the Ashley River as we wind through the heart of the historic plantation district and you are transported back in time. In a timely response to the financial hit of the Civil War, paleontologist Francis Holmes kickstarted the economic boom of phosphate mining in Charleston. What started as a fossil collecting expedition wound up transforming the landscape and propelling Charleston to be the world's leader of phosphate fertilizer by the mid-1880s.
As we cover the history about this short-lived southern industry, enjoy the scenery and views of Charleston's historic plantations from a different perspective. During the two hour cruise, we'll glide past:
